SOUTH KENT, CONN. – Graduated student Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) shot a score of 3 under par, 69, to lead the Seton Hall men’s golf team to a tie for third place after the first round of the Hartford Hawks Invitational on Monday.
Acevedo was brilliant in the first round, drawing his lowest lap since his first year. After 18 holes, he is tied for third among 114 individual golfers. Acevedo is behind the individual leaders Marcus Lim of Sacré-Cœur and Nicolas Estrada of UCF, suddenly before the second round.
As a team, Seton Hall is tied with Sacred Heart for third place in a large field of 18 teams. The Pirates shot a 1 over par, 289, in the first round and the team leader, UCF, by five shots. Another competitor from BIG EAST, Connecticut, is currently in second place just one stroke ahead of The Hall.
Senior Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, California) also had a strong opening round, pulling an even par, 72. He’s tied for 14e in total after 18 holes.
Graduate student Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) and first year student Angus o’brien (Barwon Heads, Australia) are currently tied for 28e place after shooting a 2-on-par, 74.
Junior Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) is tied for 39e place after a 3 over par, 75. Xie is the reigning Hartford Hawks Invitational individual champion having shot 10 under par in 2019.
Three pirates also made the trip to Bull’s Bridge to compete individually. Second year Alex Sun (Danville, California) shot a 2-on-par, 74. Sophomore Brody Hanley (Lantana, Texas) is 4-out-due to a 76, while Ramee hunter (Warren, Connecticut) shot a 9 over par, 81.

In addition to Seton Hall and host Hartford, the estate includes 18 other schools: Bryant, Canisius, Central Florida, Connecticut, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Fordham, Hofstra, LIU, Manhattan, Mount St. Mary’s, Rider, Sacred Heart , Saint Peter’s, Towson and Wagner.
Teams will face five golfers and have the lowest four scores per round.
The field will play two continuous rounds on Monday with a shotgun start starting at 8:00 am. A final 18-hole course will be played on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:00 am as well.
