On Monday, three Midlands girls’ golf teams won state qualifying tournaments.
Top ranked Blythewood won the Upper State Class 5A Championship while Chapin won the Lower State 5A Championship. Gilbert, the reigning and reigning state champion, won the Class 3A Lower State Championship.
Blythewood, the No. 1 ranked team in the state, continued their dominant season shooting a 281 under-7 at the Chester Golf Course. Dorman was second at 303. Caroline Hawkins and Paige Paolucci of Blythewood each shot 3 under 69 for medalist honors. Ella Stalvey drew a sub 71 and Elzabeth Maddon drew a par 72 equal.
In the Class 5A Lower State Championship at Shaftesbury Glen Golf and Fishing Club, Chapin shot a 303 to win by 16 shots on Wando. The reigning state champion was third with 323.
Adrian Anderson of St. James shot under 66 for medalist honors. Emily Baker of Chapin was second under 68. Lily Reed of the Eagles was fifth at under 71. Mia Andrade and Lexington Isabella Rawl are tied for 6th at 73. Mina Gencoguz of River Bluff was tied for eighth and the Gators qualified with sixth.
Gilbert won the 3A Lower State Championship at Cheraw State Park. The Indians fired a 326 to win by four shots at Aynor. Gilbert’s Kennedy Gooding was second after shooting 76. Edie Raine Hardee shot an 80.
AC Flora finished second in Top State Championship Class 4A at Links at Stoney Point in Greenwood. The Falcons fired a 353, three shots from Pickens. Kristin Strandell (78) of Travelers Rest was a medalist. Sarah Campbell Brown (84) of ACF was sixth and Merritt Barbrey (86) eighth.
The State Championships will be held Monday through Tuesday at various venues. The Class 5A tournament will take place at the South Carolina Country Club in Florence. The Class 4A tournament takes place at Crescent Pointe Golf in Bluffton and the 3A tournament at the Hackler course in Conway.
