Bockman said his frustration came from the city, even having additional conversations when the proposal would not benefit the city.
Shoreline spans 150 acres and features 18 holes, a driving range, golf shop, restaurant, lounge, and golf lessons.
“Shoreline is a premier golf course in the metro area,” Teeple said. “Having this equipment in Carter Lake is part of what makes our community a great recreational option. The green space, the habitat and the view of the lake make it one of the jewels of the metropolitan city center.
Bockman said Shoreline is one of the only courses in the area that is not surrounded by houses.
“If you take away all the amenities, what are you left with?” ” he said. “You end up with a smaller course surrounded by houses. And the course will die.
Teeple said they are working with another developer with the option of adding 35 homes on private land.
“Carter Lake has other vacant lots currently on the market that would be ideal for residential development without destroying our golf course,” Teeple said.
Bockman said 85% of people who visit Shoreline are from Omaha, and nothing else in the community draws people to Carter Lake like the golf course.
