This weekend, community members gather for a special Shabbat to celebrate Israel’s Independence Day.

“Come with your family, wave an Israeli flag and celebrate together,” said Allison O’Mara, director of the Jewish Federation of North Broward, in partnership with Congregation Kol Tikvah for the musical event.

“You don’t have to belong to a synagogue to join us – everyone is welcome,” O’Mara said.

The festivities will begin with dinner and conversation for the adults while the children collect their passports and head to Israel.

“Children will have the opportunity to take a trip to Israel without flying,” said Executive Director Jennifer Levin-Tavares.

They will visit several activity stations, each having something to do with an actual city in Israel. Activities include face painting, an archaeological dig, climbing Masada, and more.

During the family program, participants can bring food, chairs and blankets for a tailgate in the park. The Kol Tikvah congregation is giving away free desserts, flags and glow sticks to attendees, and everyone is expected to wear white to celebrate Israel.

A Rock Shabbat service with live music from the KT Band will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Pine Trails Amphitheater. The group KT, who have been playing together for 10 years, will unveil a new original song on Friday in honor of Israel’s Independence Day.

“We would really love to have more people in the community to celebrate Israel’s 74th birthday,” O’Mara said.

Pine Trails Amphitheater is located at 10561 Trails End.
