The Waterside Hotel and Leisure Club in Didsbury has partnered with YOUR Personal Training, to develop 12 personal trainers and instructors to create a Long COVID Rehab Center in Greater Manchester, to help our community get back to health.
Aaron McCulloch, Managing Director of YOUR Personal Training, which supports health clubs and recreation centers by providing access to highly qualified personal trainers, says: “This pandemic has taken a toll on people’s health. It’s not just about reopening fitness centers or gyms and hoping people will come back.
“Clients need relief, especially those suffering from Long COVID, which has a variety of health issues including fatigue, dizziness, cardiovascular and muscle deterioration. The pandemic has also had an impact on people’s mental health, and we are seeing many clients who are feeling anxious and self-aware of their bodies after nearly a year of being largely confined to their homes.
Instructors and PTs have completed specialist training from CAWS UK, one of the UK’s leading training authorities in Long COVID rehabilitation, and are already working with clients who, by catching COVID, need a more tailored approach to exercise. Investing in training means instructors can successfully deliver COVID recovery rehabilitation programs, providing expert advice and support to clients on an one-to-one, in-person, or digital basis.
James Swinnerton, one of YOUR personal trainers who works at the Waterside Hotel and Leisure Club, said: “I have a client, Demet Lybar, 50, who initially contracted COVID in October 2020. She is still having difficulty breathing six months after her. original infection. The Long COVID training inspired me to deepen breathing methods, especially those related to anxiety and relieving stress stimuli. This, incorporated with other rehabilitation techniques, saw her body quickly begin to recover.
Demet Lybar, said: “I have been working with my PT, James, for almost three years – we have a relationship of trust and I knew I could count on him with my recovery from Long COVID. My worst COVID symptoms were difficulty breathing, a lack of smell and taste, and anxiety.
“James has worked with me on a lot of breathing exercises and also advised me on my diet. We did a lot of stretching, yoga and light functional exercises. James always listens to me; he’s like my therapist as well. than my physiotherapist. He is very knowledgeable and is so patient and helpful. I am so much better now. I still have sleeping problems and breathing problems, but I hope this will continue to improve over time and exercise.
Aaron McCulloch says, “Physiotherapists and fitness instructors are uniquely positioned to help restore the health of our people. A personalized approach to physical activity helps build people’s confidence. The programs are designed for every client, regardless of their level of fitness or medical condition. PTs understand that people have different goals and different expectations. Our coaches always become their clients’ greatest cheerleaders!
