Unfinished.
That’s how baseball teams such as Emmaus and Southern Lehigh felt even after winning the league championships on Thursday night.
Ditto for Parkland and Bangor, the new Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and Colonial League softball champions.
Earning league crowns was exciting for those who got gold. The Slaters softball team even received a first responder escort in Bangor on Thursday. Parkland and Southern Lehigh were able to receive league gold for the first time in a few years. Then there was the Emmaus baseball team, playing deep into the DeSales University night to outlast Nazareth in a classic 10-inning EPC title game.
But even as these teams left their championship celebrations, their coaches turned the page and planned practices or scrimmages to prepare for the District 11 tournament.
It’s a busy week. Between baseball and softball, games are scheduled every day until Sunday. Memorial Day is a scheduled day off, at least for now.
DeSales University’s Weiland Park will be used for the Class 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A semifinals and finals.
Allentown Patriots Park and Blue Mountain should be used for softball title games.
In baseball, the final Class 6A standings could not be determined until Northampton played Hamburg on Saturday morning. The K-Kids won 7-0.
The PIAA tournament will begin on June 6 in both sports.
In baseball, District 11 will qualify two teams for states in 6A and 4A. A team will progress through the other classes, with the 3A champion participating in a regional with District 1.
In softball, District 11 will have two teams in 6A and one in 5A, 4A and 1A. Reps 3A and 2A will play in a regional with District 1.
In softball, the defending champions are Northampton (6A), Pocono Mountain East (5A), Bethlehem Catholic (4A), Palmerton (3A), Williams Valley (2A), and Tri-Valley (1A).
In baseball, the defending champions are Emmaus (6A), Southern Lehigh (5A), Bethlehem Catholic (4A), Palisades (3A), Schuylkill Haven (2A), and Tri-Valley (1A).
