Free COVID-19 test available before holidays


There are many options available to receive free COVID-19 tests before the next vacation.

Below is an overview of the choices for anyone who wants to take a test before visiting friends and family during the holiday season. Since all of these test options are saliva based, be sure to refrain from eating / drinking / chewing gum / etc. for the period of time required before testing.

—Shield Illinois is offering testing at the Stephens Family YMCA in Champaign from 6 am to 8 am and 4 pm to 8 pm on December 21st. The tests are free and open to the public, no appointment is necessary and results are available within 24-36 hours. .

—Shield CU offers free testing at Parkland College; the tests are open to the public and no appointment is necessary. Tests are available this week from 8:30 am to 11:30 am on December 20; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on December 21; and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on December 22. Shield CU also offers testing at the Campus Recreation Center East on the University of Illinois campus – click here for the schedule.

– The University of Illinois continues to offer free testing to the college community (those with active NetIDs), although testing locations and times are limited during college winter vacation. Click here for the most recent information on the test site.
