Fremantle’s redesigned public golf course is now open

Fremantle’s public golf course has been redesigned and features three new holes, including a par 5 for the first time, as well as new bunkers, tees and greens. The revamped course also features an improved irrigation system, new cart paths and course furnishings, and a new chipping driving range and putting green.

Temporary facilities will be added in the coming weeks and while there is still work to be done to build the new clubhouse and community center, the course has been opened to allow people to come back and play again.

Although slightly shorter than the previous layout, the new course offers much more variety in hole length as well as larger, more undulating greens, so it is more interesting to play and will provide a fun challenge for golfers. of all ages and abilities.

Mayor of Fremantle Hannah Fitzhardinge said she was delighted the course was open again and noted that “the designers have done a great job of retaining a par 34 layout on a smaller footprint, and with the new tees, greens and bunkers, the course looks great..

“We thank everyone for their patience and look forward to welcoming back all club regulars who have previously called Freo Public home, as well as casual golfers looking to squeeze in quickly on a fun and challenging course. .”

The redesign of Fremantle’s public golf course was necessary to accommodate the Main Roads WA High Street upgrade project.

As part of the High Street project, Main Roads funded a program of accommodation works including the reconfiguration of the golf course and, in the next phase, the construction of a replacement clubhouse and community centre.

The redesigned course is maintained and managed on an interim basis by the neighboring Royal Fremantle Golf Club.

Royal Fremantle will operate the course under license for 12 months, with the option to extend for up to a further 18 months if required.

Practice facilities, including the driving range and new chipping and putting greens, are also now open.

The course will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., the playing rights are the same as before the redesign.
