Garrett Leight and Metalwood Studio join forces in their latest collaboration

Metalwood Studio is a rising Los Angeles-based golf brand founded by Cole Young that celebrates the golf of yesteryear. They sell a mix of vintage clubs and gear from the 1990s and early 2000s, as well as house-brand merchandise that conveys the same aesthetic.

Garrett Leight, on the other hand, is an established eyewear brand – also in Los Angeles – that has done numerous golf-adjacent collaborations over the past few years. It’s no secret that Leight himself is a great golfer, and that’s evident from the fact that his brand has worked with golf retailers like FootJoy, Jones and Malbon Golf.

And now Leight and Metalwood are working together. Collaboration – which consists of nuances (of course); a boldly patterned camp collar shirt and matching shorts; a bucket hat; a towel; and an old-fashioned barrel pilot blanket – has a light, vintage feel. In fact, the collection is actually described as being for “stylish people like you who share a love for the unintentionally awesome goofy vibes of late ’90s golf gear, who aren’t afraid to sing the praise of “blades” (i.e. golf clubs to all of you who don’t play) in the company of anyone under the age of 65. Sure, wraparound orange sunglasses or a tie-dye camp shirt aren’t for everyone, but that’s kind of the point. When we spoke with Young about the collaboration and how it went, he said, “I think Garrett and I are such experts and interested in a good product that doesn’t currently exist on the market. golf. …Like, these wraparound shades exist in the world but maybe not in golf.
