Health Care Brief: Parkland RedBird Health Center and Heart Place Co-Director Appointed for Children’s Health

Parkland Health & Hospital System opened the RedBird Health Center last month. The facility will expand health services to southern Dallas County with the opening of a new state-of-the-art medical facility. It will provide primary and specialized care for adults and geriatrics, ranging from breast cancer screening to behavioral health, pharmacy, radiology and other services.


Dr. Marisela Marrero to become the first regional president of Steward Health Care for the South Florida region. Marrero will oversee the five Steward hospitals acquired from Tenet Healthcare Corporation last month, including North Shore Medical Center, Coral Gables Hospital, Hialeah Hospital, Palmetto General Hospital in Miami-Dade County and Florida Medical Center. in Broward County.


Dr Nicolas Madsen will join Children’s Health as Co-Director of the Heart Center and Chief of Cardiology. He will also be an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Head of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology in the Pediatric Group at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Previously, he was Medical Director of the Acute Care Cardiology Unit at Cincinnati Children’s and Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati.


After a tornado destroyed half of the Parker University buildings, the chiropractic school completed its south building, which showcases cutting-edge technology in a 25,000 square foot learning space filled with electronic resources.
