Hong KongHong Kong and Shanghai hotels, Limited (HSH) is pleased to announce that the French government has awarded the distinction of Chevalier in the National Order of the Legion of Honor and of Chevalier in the Ordre du Mérite Agricole to HSH Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Pierre Borer, during a private ceremony held at The Peninsula Hong Kong on October 6, 2021.

The Order of the Legion of Honor was created by Napoleon Bonaparte to May 19, 1802. It is the highest decoration of France and is divided into five degrees: Knight (Knight), Officer (Officer), Commander (Commander), Grand Officer (Grand Officer) and Grand Cross (Grand Cross).

Speaking at the ceremony, the Consul General of France To Hong Kong and Macau, Sir Alexandre giorgini, said: ‘This ceremony is absolutely exceptional as I will be giving Mr. Borer not one, but two important distinctions. In recognition of his exceptional work with France and with French companies, its unwavering commitment to the Peninsula project by Paris, and his dedication to promoting from France gastronomic culture, the French government has decided to grant Mr. Borer the titles of Chevalier in the National Order of the Legion of Honor and of Chevalier in the Order of Agricultural Merit. ‘

Mr. Borer declared: “I am delighted and honored to have received the honor of Chevalier in the National Order of the Legion of Honor and Knight in the Order of Agricultural Merit. I would like to thank the French Government and the Consulate of France in Hong Kong and Macau for giving me this recognition and honor, which I would like to share with all my colleagues and friends. The peninsula has a long association with France and the opening of The Peninsula Paris, our first Peninsula in Europe, was one of the proudest moments in the history of our company. This distinction is awarded in the name of service and therefore I would like to dedicate these two medals to my deceased parents, who taught me from an early age what a privilege and what an honor it is to serve others. ‘

Mr. Borer joined HSH in 1981 and was appointed Managing Director of The Peninsula Hong Kong in 1994, assuming additional regional responsibility in 1999. He was appointed Group COO in April 2004. Mr. Borer graduated from the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, Switzerland and is now a member of International Advisory Board from school. In 2019, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Alumni Network of the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management of Chinese University of Hong Kong and member of Hong Kong Gleneagles Hospital Advisory Board.
