PIERRE, SD — The Mitchell Girls Golf Team was back in action on Tuesday, April 26, heading to Hillsview Golf Course for the Pierre High School Girls Invitational. The Kernels’ six golfers combined for a team score of 358 to rank fifth out of 12 teams, finishing a total of 74 over par.
Allison Meyerink had the lowest score of the group at 87 shots, good for a 16-over-par finish and a tie for 10th place overall. Maddie Childs finished just behind her with a score of 88 (+17), finishing tied for 14th. Quinn Dannenbring also landed in the top 20, finishing with a score of 91 (+20) to finish tied for 19th.
Lara Widstrom (92 strokes, +21), Jayli Rients (96 strokes, +25) and Raegan Sperl (124 strokes, +53) completed the day for Kernels golfers.
Rapid City Stevens won the event with a team score of 329 (+45), while Stevens’ Taylor Wit tied with Aberdeen Central’s Olivia Braun for the lowest score of the day with a score of 77 (+6).
The Winner Warriors girls were also in action, posting a team score of 409 to finish in ninth place in the tournament. Rylee Root led the team, finishing at 93 hits for the day, with Devan Dougherty (103), Gracie Root (106), Tessa Mann (107) and Kelbi Meiners (108) rounding out the tournament for the Warriors.
Mitchell will be back in action on Thursday, April 28, as they travel to Lee Park Golf Course in Aberdeen for the Hub City Invitational. The winner will also be back in action on Thursday at the Chamberlain Country Club for the Chamberlain Invitational.
