MAGALIA, California. – Saturday was a day of celebration in Magalia with a grand opening and ribbon cutting at Magalia Community Park at 13917 South Park Drive (Andover and Skyway).
The non-profit organization operates the Magalia Community Center and the South Pines Disc Golf Course.
Executive Director Chris Rauen said, “Teams of volunteers have been working for the past year to repair, update, clean and clean the community center and the 40-acre park / golf course.”
Rauen called the center and park / golf course for the community to come together, enjoy the outdoors, and provide resources that help people rebuild and connect.
In addition to the course, a 1.8 mile paved path runs alongside the course providing a place for walking, biking, jogging. Many dog walkers also use the path on a daily basis.
The need for a community gathering place has been great since the camp fire that burned down homes and parts of Magalia and much of Paradise in November 2018. The facility provides a gathering space for classes, lessons and children. meetings, events and private receptions.
“Our dream of a community center and park for Magalia and Upper Ridge is finally coming true,” said Chairman of the Board, Rich Gingery, Jr.
Association Treasurer Janet Rose thanked the North Valley Community Foundation / Butte Strong Fund and the Tri-Counties Bank for their financial support. She also thanked the individual and commercial sponsors of the disc golf course.
Da Hotpots and the Ridge Strong Band performed at the event, which included a ribbon cutting by the Paradise Chamber of Commerce.
There were also disc golf demonstrations, network video game opportunities, food and crafts.
