The Parkland School District administration sent the following letter regarding their health and safety plan on August 19 to families in the community.
âOn July 27, the Parkland School Board approved the 2021-2022 health and safety plan.
âAs part of this plan, the school board has given the administration the ability to modify the plan as needed based on the health, safety and well-being of students, staff and families.
âUnfortunately, the number of COVID-19 cases and the spread in the community has increased, as has the potential impact on children.
âTherefore, the following change has been made to the health and safety plan and will be effective August 23: The Parkland School District will be implementing an interior face covering decision-making matrix.
âThis matrix is ââa level system that progresses from low risk to high risk.
âBased on this matrix, the Parkland School District is currently at Level 3.
âLevel 3 represents the district’s highest level of concern for the spread of COVID-19.
âAt Level 3, all students, staff and visitors from Kindergarten to Grade 12 are required to wear a face covering indoors, regardless of their immunization status.
âIt was an extremely difficult decision.
âWe didn’t want to create an indefinite term that requires face coverings.
âThe Face Covering Decision-Making Matrix provides the Parkland School District with a strategy to ease or tighten face covering restrictions as evidence of the number of COVID-19 cases and the ebb and flow of the city. community.
“This matrix provides clear indicators for the administration to review on a regular basis to enable removal of facial coverage requirements when the data supports safe change.”
