Roundup: Harmon leads the way at the junior golf tournament

VAN WERT – Carson Harmon had the low round of the day with a 1-under-71 by winning the boys 16-18 division in the McDonald’s Foster Family Chiropractic & NWO Welch Trophy Open junior series at the Hickory Sticks Golf Club .

Carter Schnipke finished second with a 73.

Jalyn Bruns took the victory in the girls 16-18 with a 77, Kayla Nartker beat Zoey Merritt in the playoffs for second after every 83 shot.

Connor Nartker finished atop the boys’ standings 14-15 with an 79. Second place went to Noel Petersen who beat Louis Magoto in the playoffs after every 84 shot.

In the nine hole competition, Evan Altenburger won a playoff against Henry Petersen for the boys’ championship 12-13 after each 38 shot. The PeeWee champion was Calvin Byrum (38) followed by Jacob Geier (43). Reagan Brewer won the 15-and-under girls’ title with a 46, one stroke short of runner-up Kallie McKinley.

Camp Mathias next week

PERRYSBURG – Elida’s Andrew Etzkorn is on the roster for Friday’s Northwest Ohio Regional All-Star soccer game. The match at Steinecker Stadium features more than 100 players from over 40 schools and did not take place in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
