Solheim Cup aims to spread message of empowerment with Women’s Summit

The 2021 Women’s Summit brings inspiration and guidance to nearly 800 exceptional business and community leaders.

TOLEDO, Ohio – Some of the best golfers in the world are in Toledo this week for the LPGA Solheim Cup.

Organizers say the event is more than just a round of golf. It’s about empowerment.

That’s why LPGA commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samann said the Solheim Cup included a women’s top on Tuesday. The event brought together nearly 800 business and community leaders from Northwestern Ohio and Southeast Michigan.

“That’s really what we were trying to do. I think networking for women is so essential. Leadership and development are so important, ”said Marcoux Samann. “And so a summit like this, combined with this remarkable event, is a perfect combination.”

The summit is an essential part of the golf tournament. Event President Meg Ressner explains how it happened.

“The idea was born when we were preparing our candidacy for Toledo to get the Solheim Cup,” said Ressner. “So what we want to do is make sure women are front and center throughout this week.”

The panel of speakers included broadcaster Robin Roberts and professional golfers Renee Powell and Annika Sorenstam.

The trio shared stories and tips to inspire others. They also answered questions from participants.

“The relationships that are building and the conversations that unfold for which the Solheim Cup was the catalyst, which I believe will have a lasting impact on the community and continue to improve the way we recognize and empower women,” Ressner said.

A feeling that Roberta Bowman, LPGA’s head of branding and communications, wants to make sure everyone hears and understands.

“Like the women were all on the same team,” Bowman said. “We have this opportunity to uplift each other through our experiences and learning and to honestly create a better place.”

The money raised at the summit will be donated to several local charities, including Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Toledo.

WTOL11 is a proud sponsor of the Solheim Cup 2021.
