Take a look at the new multi-million pound leisure center in Sheerwater

A brand new, state-of-the-art leisure center featuring the best of modern technology has opened in Sheerwater.

The Eastwood Leisure Center is part of a £ 26million investment by Woking City Council and the first phase of a six-year regeneration project.

The impressive facility is operated by Freedom Leisure, which also operates the Woking Leisure Center, Park Pool and Woking Gym on behalf of the council.

The new “inclusive and accessible” leisure center includes a 25-meter swimming pool with an observation gallery, steam room and sauna. In addition, high-tech “anti-downing” technology in the form of underwater cameras.

A smaller teaching pool has a “movable floor” – so the depth can be adjusted – as well as a hoist and privacy blinds.

Upstairs there is a 65-station gym with an adjacent group cycling studio.

Nearby primary and secondary schools are already benefiting from the use of the five-court sports hall and a large, illuminated outdoor 3G football pitch, which houses Sheerwater FC and has a covered grandstand seating 100. fans.

Inside, there is also a multi-purpose room with bar facilities, which can be used as a club room by local sports teams or as additional studio space.

There are accessible facilities and disabled access throughout the new building.

The building permit was obtained in July 2016 and work began on the site in July 2019. The keys to the finished building were handed over to the town hall in February this year.
