PUEBLO, Colo. (Press Release) – The Nebraska-Kearney Women’s Golf Team shot a total of 36 holes of 607 to win the Classic Pack Sunday night in Pueblo, Colo.
The 15-team tournament, formerly known as the El Cheapo Classic, was hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo at par 72 Walking Stick GC Due to inclement weather expected Monday, the event was condensed into one day.
Playing a rare 36 holes in one day, the No. 35-ranked Lopers shot rounds of 298 and 309. The 298 is only the fifth round under 300 in school history and ranks third overall. UNK held off 40th-placed Colorado Christian (610) for the team trophy with host ThunderWolves (621) third and the next four teams between 623-630.
Kansas sophomore Allison Comer was third in an 81 field with a 4 of 148 (73-75). To achieve his best score over 36 holes as a Loper, his day included six birdies and 21 pars. CCU’s Faith Kilgore (142) was the medalist and CSUP’s Victoria Hart (146) was second.
UNK’s next two scorers, Arizona junior Paige Lucero and Colombian Juliana Botero Molina, both tied for seventh with a 152. first round. This is her second 71 of the season and she also has a 70 under her belt. Lucero had 21 pars and five birdies with Botero Molina at five birdies and UNK’s lone eagle (par 5 4th hole; 447 yards).
Finally, Puerto Rico senior Faviola Gonzalez is tied for 16th (155; 77-780) and Kansas rookie Brooke King is tied for 48th (164; 80-84).
UNK is heading to the Newman Invite in Wichita on April 4-5.
